Procedure

A chevron osteotomy is the most common technique used to correct mild to moderate bunion deformities. Traditionally, this procedure has been performed through an open approach. However, since the advent of minimally invasive surgery (MIS), surgeons now have the option to perform a chevron osteotomy through small percutaneous incisions. Following the osteotomy, the capital fragment is shifted laterally and fixated with either Compression FT screws for the MIS approach or Compression PT screws for the traditional open approach.

The titanium Compression FT (fully threaded) screws come in 2.5 mm Micro, 3.5 mm Mini, 4.0 mm Standard, 5.0 mm Large, and 7.0 mm XL. The variable-stepped thread pitch and headless design help reduce the risk of profile complications, provide compression, and allow for simplified insertion. The DynaNite nitinol compression plates take advantage of the superelastic property of nitinol to create dynamic compression across a fusion site. Each plate comes packaged with a compression device. When the compression device is removed, the bridge is allowed to widen to its manufactured natural state. As the plate widens, it shortens to compress the fusion site.
The DynaNite nitinol compression plates are offered in 5 different plate geometries of varying lengths. The plates can be fixated with 3.0 mm or 3.0 mm hybrid cortical and VAL screws.
The Arthrex DynaNite compression plates are intended to be used in conjunction with the Arthrex Compression FT screws.

Arthrex also offers proximal opening wedge osteotomy plates to reduce the IM angle.

Post-traumatic arthritis is a common complication following Lisfranc injury. When conservative measures fail, patients may benefit from selective arthrodesis of symptomatic joints. Arthrex provides surgeons with low-profile plates, Nitinol staples, headless compression screws, and biologic augmentation to facilitate a successful fusion.

A triple arthrodesis is the fusion of the subtalar, calcaneocuboid, and talonavicular joints. Arthrex has developed 5.0 mm Large and 7.0 mm XL Compression FT Screws and DynaNite® Nitinol staples as options for this procedure. After removing any remaining cartilage and subchondral bone and applying biologic materials to accelerate fusion, apply fixation to compress and stabilize the joint.
