Procedure

The Patella Fracture System includes everything needed to repair transverse patella fractures. The 4.0 mm blunt-tipped cannulated screws were designed specifically for patella fractures. In addition, FiberTape® suture has been attached to 5 in needles designed to pass through the screws, subsequently allowing for its use as a tension band. This construct has been shown to be stronger than the traditional K-wire with cerclage wire constructs.1
The set includes everything needed to perform a traditional repair. Innovative instruments are included along with sternal wire drivers, Weber clamps, drill guides, and Stout wire cutters, giving surgeons all necessary instruments needed in one convenient set. Unique to this set is an adjustable parallel offset guide, a C-ring drill guide with an incorporated measurement device, and a cerclage wire passer to effectively pass wire through the quad and patellar tendons.

Patella Fracture System

To address various types of fractures, the Patella SuturePlate™ II system offers three types of plates in different sizes. All plates are made of titanium and have a low-profile thickness of 1.6 mm with screws sitting flush on the plate. Suture holes in the plate can be optionally used for soft-tissue reattachment or ligament bracing.

Patella fractures represent approximately 1% of all fractures and present in a variety of patterns, which can make osteosynthesis challenging. The Patella Fracture Set was specifically designed to address common obstacles (eg, amount of comminution, degree of osteoporosis, and natural forces across the patella) and to facilitate fixation of challenging injuries.
This set includes 4.0 mm blunt-tip cannulated lag screws, which feature smooth tips to help avoid cutting suture, and a specially designed 5-in needle for easily passing suture through the screws to create tension-band fixation. Compared to traditional K-wires, this construct has been shown to be stronger.1
Arthrex is the first company to obtain FDA clearance for plating in patella fracture indications. Patellar stability and osteosynthesis rates have been shown to improve significantly with locked plates.2 Arthrex mesh plates can be used in conjunction with this set for fixation of these frequently challenging injuries. The mesh plates, which are offered in short and long lengths, can be cut and contoured to the desired size and shape based on fracture patterns.

The Arthrex Proximal Tibia Plating System builds on the Titanium Distal Tibia Plating System with the addition of lateral and posteromedial proximal tibia plating options, plateau-specific instruments, and longer screws. All plates accept 4.0 mm fixed-angle locking, 3.5 mm variable-angle locking, and 3.5 mm cortical screws.&nbsp;A T10 driver can be used for all screw sizes.
